Filmed at the Philadelphia Art Museum Jazz series, Black Urgency is a composition by my close friend and musical colleague Erica Lindsay. Erica and I have played and recorded a lot over the years and I am grateful for her friendship and comaraderie. Erica is an outstanding tenor saxophonist, musician, composer and educator. The title of the composition resonates with our times, and was inspired by the power, strength and beauty of Black people and the urgency of our struggle.

We recorded this composition on our Initiation release on ARC in 2006.
